Huayhuash

Huayhuash is the name given to a fantastic mountain formation, with its steap peaks, its snow covered mountains, its valleys, hills, rivers and lakes. All these make Huayhuash a mystery to discover.
Thanks to a gringita (ex-pat) whom i heard speak of this place.
And i recognise my discovery of the golden treasure.

After making some basic preperations such as buying flour and oats for 8 days in the mountains.
Once i had downloaded from thre internet, a basic course in using a compass and after buying a bus ticket to a town called Chiquian, I was ready.
Almost without realising it, i was embarking on one of the most beautiful experiences i have ever had. thats how i got involved in this adventure in a magical lanscape. just as i oke everyday in the midst of thse mountains.

The days passed between roads and trails. the ones that you follow, day after day, as if a spell, bewitched by the magic of the place.

The days passed and every night, accompanied her, a beautiful sunrise.
And even the coldest night, the atmosphere around you maged to keep you warm.

There are days that you suffer, a suffering with point, then at the end of the day, to turn a corner or reach a peak.

The suffering becomes the deepest pleasure. That makes you jump for joy and continue ahead.

Put 20kgs on the back and leave to the mountains to climb to 5000m and walk an average of 5 hours daily.
There is always someone who can look at you like you are crazy.

These mountains hide the tenderness of its people. hospitality and grafeful, that the people appreciate the charms of their lands.

They live in these lands with the difficulty of the climate and of the isolation, as many little houses on the path are all within 2 days away from the nearest town.

The softness of its valleys golden in the sun.

It contrasts with the agressive peaks, dwellings of the Apus, that jealously guards the secrets and charms of its dwellings.

Here legend has it that the Apus, the gods and masters of the mountains jealously protect its charms, so if you want to visit their home and to show respect, you must approach them slowly so that you know and they invite you to go and meet with them.

It is the calmeness, tranquality and illusion, that these mountains are left to be known.

You have to take the necessary time to talk with them.

Respect them but not to let down your guard and fight with your nails and teeth.

Like she'll take them out of you, trying to intimidate you.

Always look into the eyes of the mountains but with respect, they deserve a slow approach.

Dont forget that she's older and wiser than you, so treat with a gentleness and respect.
Learn all its years of history that it has to teach you.

Thats right, dont miss out on the mountain.
Take your backpack, fill it with only what you really need.

And as if you were going to school, come to discover, to know Mama Gaya and let her fill you with her wisdom. And dont be afraid to talk to her. you are not crazy, thats life.
